How can employers get involved?

This section of the website will provide employers with all the information, advice and guidance that will support preparation for employer engagement with the Diploma in Manufacturing and Product Design.

To ensure that young people have the skills and knowledge required for future employment, employers need to get involved in a number of ways.

Employers help is needed to assist schools and colleges in the delivery of this new and exciting qualification from September 2009 by providing a real life environment to bring learning to life. This can be done through a number of ways including:

  • Visit a school or college to tell young people (and teachers) about the work employers do.
  • Provide school teachers and college tutors with placements at your company to ensure that the knowledge and skills they teach reflect current best practice.
  • Supply a local school or college with resources and materials.
  • Pose real manufacturing and product design problems for young people to tackle as a project element of their Diploma.
  • Enable young people to visit your workplace and see local examples of Manufacturing and Product Design.
  • Provide young people with a minimum of 10 days of meaningful and exciting work experience.
