They are the hidden side of the UK manufacturing and construction industry, but without us the UK economy would grind to a halt. The sector is increasingly high tech and is constantly changing to remain competitive in the global market place.

Five “Industry Groups? made up of employers drive Proskills work forward in the process and manufacturing sector, which includes:
Coatings – including powder coatings manufacture, resin manufacture, manufacture of plastics in primary form, manufacture of paints, varnishes and similar coatings, printing ink and mastics, and the manufacture of wallpaper.
Extractives – the extraction and processing of solid minerals products which include the extraction of aggregates, slate, dimensional stone, gypsum, china clay and ball clay, silica and industrial sands, materials for cement manufacture, the processing of blast furnace/steel slag, the production and laying of asphalt, the production of ready mixed mortar and concrete and ancillary operations of these activities and the mining industry.
Glass – including manufacture, fenestration and glazing.
Building products and refractories – including manufacture of refractory ceramic products; bricks, tiles, pipes and construction products in baked clay, concrete products for building purposes and other non-metallic mineral products.
Print – including printing and all service activities relating to printing, including printing of newspapers, printed packaging, other printing, bookbinding and pre-press activities.
