The Diploma in Manufacturing and Product Design (MPD) has been developed by the Manufacturing Diploma Development Partnership.

After consulting with a wide range of employers from various manufacturing sectors and learning about their specific needs, the partnership developed the Line of Learning Statement. This document sets out the employers’ vision for the Diploma in Manufacturing and Product Design and outlines the range of subjects and practical options that students can learn.

The Line of Learning Statement presents the range of possible content for the Diploma in MPD in a clear and consistent format. It provided the basis for the development of the Criteria Document, which Awarding Bodies have used when developing their Qualification Specifications for the Diploma in MPD.

The Partnership has advised Awarding Bodies on the details of how the qualification is structured and exactly what young people will learn.

In addition to this, the partnership has assisted the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) with part of the Diploma in MPD assessment process for the schools and colleges which are currently delivering the qualification.

As the Partnership progresses it will be supporting the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA), the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust (SSAT), Lifelong Learning UK (LLUK) and the Learning and Skills Network (LSN). This work will include providing advice and support for schools, colleges, teachers and lecturers about teaching and delivery of the Diploma in MPD.
