Working with employers

The Diploma in Manufacturing and Product Design (MPD) gives schools and colleges the chance to come together and work with local employers. This link with the world of work will help teachers and lecturers to bring learning to life with practical and realistic examples of manufacturing and product design.

Employers can offer a wide range of support, from work experience placements and site visits to providing learning materials and giving presentations.

Through taking this approach, teachers and lecturers will develop their own skills and abilities, as well as benefit from this teaching experience, which mixes the practical with the theoretical.

Given that the Diploma in MPD focuses on a variety of different manufacturing sectors, ranging from textiles and pharmaceuticals to furniture and food and drink, teachers and lecturers will have the opportunity to broaden their specialist knowledge.

Working in partnership with employers will help schools and colleges provide work experience linked to manufacturing and product design, as well as establishing greater links with the local community.

With many employers being parents themselves this will have the added advantage of raising the profile of schools and colleges, and the learning experience on offer.
